Roguelikes, C++, Bits & Bytes

Roguelike games! (and more)

So, what in the blazes is this thing about? Why does it exist? What is it’s purpose? Why Roguelike games?

First of all I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Joshua and I live in the Netherlands. My hobbies are programming and playing roguelikes (hence the description of the blog ;)) I’m also a Computer Engineer but that’s not important for this blog/forum site.

As the title probably makes clear, this blog is going to be about my hobbies and I hope to reach people with the same interests. These interests are Roguelikes, Roguelites, RPG games, programming and general geeky stuff that could be linked in some way to these things.

Expect posts about something I made, something I want to share or just something I find plain interesting. Maybe I’ll review a Roguelike or two once, who knows? šŸ™‚

I hope the forums will provide a place where people will talk about those things. Of course there are not much people that know about this site now. But I hope for the best!

A little bit more about myself

So as I told before, I’m Joshua, a computer engineer from the Netherlands. I took an interest in programming when I was twelve years old. Not long after that I started to focus more on that with my studies. And a few years ago I got my degree in Computer Engineering. I turned my hobby into my work and I still love it.

Besides computers I also like music a lot (especially electronic music like Trance/Dance/Dubstep/Drum ‘n Bass & Trap) I also like watching Anime because of the ‘ahem’ plot. Just kidding šŸ˜‰ my favorite one is Clannad because of the story and tear-jerkiness (Did I just invent a new word?)

Of course, I also have favorite Roguelikes. I’d argue having a top ten (I like most of them equally) but if I’d have to rate my favorite three Roguelikes I’d rate them as follows:

  1. DCSS (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup)
  2. Dwarf Fortress (Not technically a RL in some senses, but still good!)
  3. ToME (Tales of Maj’Eyal)

I’ve also been playing Cogmind recently. IĀ  like it and I think this will be my first written review soon!

More coming…

Expect some more content in the coming weeks (is anybody reading this yet?) regardless of how many people find this site! I hope I can share some nice stuff here to help people out too.

Feel free to ask any questions by sending me an email!
